We created the first tenant passport system in 2011 in Portugal, partnering with Equifax. We introduced tenant referencing and landlord insurance to the Portuguese rental market and quickly revolutionised how landlords and tenants interacted with each other. It proved to be far more efficient to allow tenants to be fully prequalified before viewing properties.

It was very clear that the UK had become bogged down with a system where tenants viewed properties, paid a holding deposit and then paid a lot of money to go through a ‘referencing’ process. If this process failed for any reason, the tenant lost out financially, and both sides wasted their time.

In 2016, when the government first drafted the tenant fee ban for England and Wales (Scotland had the ban since 2012), it seemed the ideal time to bring MyHomePassport to the UK.

We partnered with LexisNexis, the world's largest ID/anti-fraud organisation, which also accesses data from the three main UK credit agencies – Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. Our developer, Mvine Ltd, works with the UK government as a Verify hub provider. Both partners operate at the cutting edge of world-class digital ID technology and feature in the world’s top 100 influencers in this field.

Our expert team includes high-level executives of housing associations, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and social welfare organisations, along with colleagues who are highly experienced in the technology and private rental sectors. The team includes landlords and tenants.

We work together to enhance the rental experience for responsible landlords and trustworthy tenants. The market is rapidly expanding, and renting is the future – whether by choice or financial and social circumstances. We are working on many fantastic additional features that will have a significant impact for all involved with the UK’s rental market.

In the meantime, welcome to the UK’s most reliable rent passport.
